Series background & context
Honest Attractions is Foxworthy's most contemporary series, and probably her most flexible one too. These books trade monsters and lost planets for awkward meetings, sideways invitations, odd misunderstandings, and people who are trying, sometimes clumsily, to tell the truth about what they want. The title fits. Attraction is important, but honesty is the real test.
The setups are often wonderfully strange.
A woman fleeing trouble jumps into a man's car at a rest stop. A coffee date turns out not to be a date at all, at least not on both sides. A couples-only party solves the problem of a single guest by assigning him a wife for the evening. A supposed blind date appears thanks to a matchmaking service the hero did not know he had joined. Even when the premise sounds comic, the series usually settles into conversations about trust, value, grief, age, money, and what people owe each other.
The books feel linked more by tone and worldview than by one giant plot. There are recurring connections and a shared emotional logic, but each novel works as its own entry point. That makes the series easy to sample. Start early with Desert Trading Post if you want the original mood, or jump into a later title if a premise catches you.
If you like romance-adjacent contemporary fiction with direct dialogue, eccentric meet-cutes, and a steady interest in chosen family, this is the branch to try. It is the place where Foxworthy brings her fascination with unusual arrangements into the most everyday settings.
