Series background & context
Delvers is one of Foxworthy's clearest blends of post-cataclysm adventure and fantasy. The world is far, far past disaster, roughly ten thousand years beyond a civilization-ending collapse. The old world is buried, half legendary, and full of dangerous ruins. The people who go down into those places are Delvers, trained explorers of what time forgot.
That job description tells you a lot.
The first book follows a Delver who thinks he is ready for anything until he finds Shakini, a being from old stories who is almost dead when he discovers her. Saving her creates the vital bond of the title, and that bond changes the shape of the whole story. She is not just a mysterious woman in trouble. She is a monster hunter, and according to older legends, something close to a demon. The book gets its charge from putting those two lives together.
So the series works on two levels at once. On one level it is ruin exploration, ancient technology, and the thrill of what might be hiding under layers of dust and myth. On the other, it is about partnership, dependency, and the strange chemistry between two people whose talents fit each other almost too well.
If you want a far-future fantasy that feels both archaeological and personal, Delvers is a strong place to begin. Buried history matters, but the real engine is the bond between the people forced to face it together.
