Author bio
Rachel Hanna writes the kinds of stories she loves to read, the ones where small towns feel like home, second chances are always possible, and the South is almost a character on its own. A lifelong resident of north Georgia, she grew up hearing front porch stories, watching summer thunderstorms roll over the hills, and filing away details that would one day become fictional towns, inns, and beach houses.
As a kid, she was the one scribbling poems and short stories in notebooks instead of paying attention in class. In third grade, a favorite teacher quietly told her she would be a writer someday. That comment stuck. Years later, she went on to study journalism, interning in busy Atlanta newsrooms and learning how to chase facts, meet deadlines, and listen closely to how people really talk.
Journalism gave her a career, but over time she realized she was more interested in the human stories behind the headlines than in the news cycle itself. She started wondering what might happen if she took the same attention to detail and pointed it toward made up people in very real feeling towns. The urge to write fiction kept growing until she finally sat down and wrote her first romance, a small town story that became Second Chance: Tanner & Shannon.
From there, the worlds multiplied. Her New Beginnings books led into coastal romances like January Cove in Georgia and the Blue Ridge mountain town of Whiskey Ridge. Then came Seagrove, the South Carolina island setting for her South Carolina Sunsets series, and the Sweet Tea B&B nestled in the mountains. Each new series let her follow different groups of friends and families as they fall in love, rebuild broken lives, and figure out what home really means.
Readers often meet her through The Beach House and Sunsets & Second Chances, where Julie Pike’s life falls apart and then slowly comes back together on a Lowcountry island. Others start with Sweet Tea B&B, where two very different sisters discover each other and an old inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains. More recent novels like The Bucket List, Happy Harbor, and The Wexley Inn lean into later in life reinvention, following women who are old enough to know who they are but still brave enough to change.
Across all of her books, she gravitates toward clean, closed door romance and women’s fiction with a hopeful core. Her characters are usually a little messy, often funny, and surrounded by found family, nosy neighbors, rescue animals, or all three. She likes to show how ordinary people handle big shifts, from divorce and career changes to surprise inheritances, grown kids leaving home, or a long lost relative showing up out of the blue.
At home, she shares life with her husband, three kids who are technically adults but still wander back for advice and home cooking, two rescue dogs, and a very opinionated outdoor cat who patrols the yard like he owns the place. North Georgia is still base camp, and the rhythms of the region, from church potlucks to small town festivals, keep finding their way into her stories.
These days, writing is her full time job. Mornings are often spent drafting new chapters, and afternoons might involve talking with readers, reviewing audiobook narration, or sketching out the next series idea. She continues to add books to Seagrove, Jubilee, Wisteria Island, and now The Lowcountry Ladies Club, while also working on standalones like The Unpolished Life of Eleanor Whitfield. Through it all, her goal stays simple, to give readers a warm escape to the South, a few laughs, maybe a tear or two, and a reminder that it is never too late to start over.
