Hotel expert Isabella Montgomery finally buys her own inn on exclusive Wexley Island, only to discover the contractor she must work with is Thomas, the college love who vanished decades ago. Restoring the inn means confronting old heartbreak and daring to trust again.
Series background & context
The Lowcountry Ladies Club series introduces readers to Wexley Island, an exclusive barrier island off the South Carolina coast where wealth, history, and new beginnings all collide. At the center is a loose circle of women who find one another through a private social club and discover that friendship might be the most valuable luxury on the island.
The first book, The Wexley Inn, follows Isabella Montgomery, who has spent decades making other people’s hotels successful. At fifty five, she is finally ready to build something of her own. When the historic Wexley Inn comes up for sale on Wexley Island, she sees it as fate, a chance to own a charming Lowcountry bed and breakfast instead of just running someone else’s vision.
Reality sets in quickly. The inn needs serious renovation, the island community has its own unspoken rules, and the only contractor available is Thomas, Isabella’s college sweetheart. He vanished from her life thirty years earlier without explanation, shattering her trust. Now she has to work side by side with the man who broke her heart while also proving herself in a town that does not immediately welcome outsiders, even wealthy ones.
As renovations move forward, Isabella starts to build connections with other women on the island, forming the beginnings of the Lowcountry Ladies Club. These friendships give her support, perspective, and occasionally a push when she would rather hide behind work. At the same time, she senses that Thomas is keeping secrets about why he left, why he is back, and what he wants now, both from the inn and from her.
The series continues with The Silver Bell, which focuses on another woman within the club as she navigates her own season of change, all while Wexley Island prepares for holiday events and high end gatherings. While each book features a new lead character and romance arc, the inn, the club, and the island community provide continuity.
Lowcountry Ladies Club stories are perfect if you like later in life heroines, second chance romance, and a mix of glossy settings with very human problems. There are scenic beaches and swaying palmettos, but there are also tough business decisions, family baggage, and questions about what success looks like in midlife. Underneath the luxury trappings, the heart of the series is about women choosing themselves, supporting one another, and letting love in when it shows up in unexpected ways.
