Series background & context

Lake House Treasures is a contemporary women's-fiction and romance series written by Kari Lee Harmon, the pen name of Kari Lee Townsend. It centers on three women, Amber Scott, Meghan McCloud, and Brook Jones, who discover at age thirty that they are connected in a way none of them expected.

They are half-sisters.

The women receive a request to come to the reading of James Cavanaugh's will, even though James is still alive. Their father has spent years keeping the truth from them, and now, faced with his own mortality, he wants to make amends. He brings them to his home on Skaneateles Lake in central New York, where an inheritance becomes the beginning of a much messier family story.

James's history comes first in James, an expanded prequel previously published as The Beginning. He built a successful shipbuilding business, but failed to acknowledge the three daughters he had with three childhood friends. The book explains why the reunion is so difficult and why none of the women has a simple reason to trust him.

The later books give each daughter room to tell her own story. Amber, Meghan, and Brook explore what happens when women with very different upbringings are asked to make room for family, forgiveness, and love. They are not instantly close, and the series does not treat money or inheritance as an easy solution to old pain.

The lake house provides a shared setting and a pause from ordinary life. It is where the sisters have to decide whether they can build something new together. Romantic relationships develop alongside that larger family question, with each woman facing her own worries about belonging and being chosen.

This is a relationship-driven series.

Expect family secrets, second chances, emotional repair, and contemporary romance rather than a mystery plot. Start with James for the father’s perspective and the setup, then continue with Amber, Meghan, and Brook to follow the sisters' individual journeys.
