Series background & context

Portrait of a Woman is a contemporary romance and women's-fiction series written by Kari Lee Harmon, the pen name of Kari Lee Townsend. Each book focuses on a woman at a turning point, someone who has learned to survive but is still deciding what she wants the next version of her life to be.

The first book is Resilient.

Zoe Robinson is newly single after a long marriage ends. Her husband leaves to find himself and returns with the news that he no longer wants the life they shared. Zoe has children, responsibilities, and a habit of taking care of everyone else. Starting over is not a neat, inspirational project. It is exhausting, sometimes funny, and full of choices she never expected to make.

Zoe leans on friends, wine, and the routines that keep her moving. Then a connection with a doctor asks her to consider whether a new relationship can be something other than another risk. The story is interested in self-respect and recovery as much as romance. Zoe has to decide what she wants, not simply accept what someone else thinks she should want.

The later Portrait of a Woman books continue that approach with different heroines. They are connected by women facing loneliness, rumor, loss, family pressure, or the fear that their chance for change has passed. The romances matter, but each story starts with a woman reclaiming her own voice.

These are adult, relationship-driven stories with humor and emotional messiness. They focus on small-town connections, friendship, personal growth, and the uneasy work of letting people in after disappointment.

Starting over does not mean becoming someone unrecognizable.

Begin with Resilient. It establishes the series' interest in women rebuilding their lives and offers a good entry point for readers who enjoy contemporary romance with family, friendship, and a strong second-chance thread.
