Series background & context

Coldwater Cove is Kari Lee Harmon's romantic-suspense series, written by Kari Lee Townsend under her romance pen name. The books are set in a small fishing town on the Maine coast, where the scenery is beautiful, the community is close-knit, and old secrets have a habit of refusing to stay buried.

Each story pairs a central mystery or threat with a developing romance. The danger is real, but so is the pull of a place where people know one another's histories, notice when something is wrong, and sometimes protect a secret for far too long.

In Dark Seas, journalist Stacy Buchanan comes home after her father's health worsens. Her return also puts her near the unanswered questions surrounding her mother's death ten years earlier. Trent West, an FBI agent working under an assumed identity, has his own connection to the case. Their investigation sets the pattern for the series, personal history colliding with present-day risk.

The sea matters here.

Storms, cold water, isolated stretches of shoreline, and the working-town setting give the books their atmosphere. In Frozen Waters, storm chaser Emma Ross returns as a dangerous nor'easter approaches, while former Navy SEAL Gunner Nash is trying to make sense of a mission that went wrong. The weather is not just background. It raises the stakes and narrows every escape route.

Dangerous Thaw follows Olivia as a killer targets women who resemble her. Agent Hank Masters becomes both an uneasy ally and a possible complication, especially as clues suggest that his connection to the case may not be what it seems.

These are contemporary romantic suspense stories, not gentle village mysteries. Expect investigations, hidden motives, past trauma, and characters forced to decide whom they can trust. The romantic relationships grow in the middle of that pressure rather than outside it.

Start with Dark Seas. The leads change from book to book, but the town and its ongoing atmosphere make reading in order the most satisfying choice.
