Halfway Between Books in Order

Halfway Between is an urban fantasy trilogy with a darker paranormal romance spine than the title might first suggest. It follows Veil, a woman who is not quite human, not quite dead, and not remotely free of the past that made her.

That in-between state is the whole engine of the series. Veil was created from clay and forbidden magic by the archdemon Asmodeus himself. She cannot die, cannot age, and cannot fully step outside the damage done by the bond between them. By the time the books begin, she has already spent decades running from him, which means the romance arrives loaded with history, betrayal, and unfinished business.

The setting is Boston, but this is a Boston crowded with cults, angels, demons, and occult power plays happening just behind ordinary life. Something is hunting supernatural beings, and Veil gets dragged back into a conflict she has tried very hard to avoid. Her creator still wants her. Her father is an archangel. Everyone has an agenda. None of it is simple.

That is where the series finds its tension. Veil is powerful, damaged, stubborn, and painfully aware that getting close to the wrong person can blow up far more than her love life. Asmodeus is not framed as a safe romantic option. He is dangerous in exactly the ways the story says he is. The trilogy keeps returning to that point while asking how love, anger, devotion, and ownership can get knotted together until they are hard to separate.

So this is not light paranormal fun.

It is a moody, high-drama supernatural romance with family wounds, old betrayals, and a heroine who has to decide what she is willing to become in order to survive. Start with Shadow Of Angels and keep going in order, because the trilogy builds one continuous emotional and political arc.
