Creature Feature Books in Order

Creature Feature is a little different from many of Kathryn Ann Kingsley's other series. Instead of one long arc, it works as a set of stand-alone monster romances, each one taking a familiar horror figure and asking what would happen if the villain stayed dangerous and still got the girl.

That is the whole pitch.

The first two books in this world point clearly to the series' interests. The Forgotten Phantom revisits the Phantom story through a darker romance lens, while The Vengeful Vampire turns to vampire territory with the same mix of menace, longing, and theatrical bite. These are not clean retellings meant to soften the original monsters. Kingsley is much more interested in preserving their charm, their cruelty, and the tension that comes from loving someone who is not safe.

Because the books are stand-alones, each entry gets to build its own mood. One may lean more gothic, another more playful, another more openly horrific. What ties them together is the approach. The heroines are pulled into stories that feel half horror movie, half dark romance, and the creatures at the center are meant to unsettle as much as seduce.

The series also shows off one of Kingsley's recurring strengths, taking old dramatic material and pushing it toward obsession. Masks, crypts, ruined stages, lonely monsters, and women who step too close to the dark all fit naturally here. Even when the setup starts from something familiar, the emotional center is still about temptation, danger, and the cost of choosing the monster on purpose.

So if you want a huge continuous fantasy saga, this is not that.

If you want self-contained, villain-forward romances with horror roots, this is exactly that. Start with whichever monster sounds most fun to you, though The Forgotten Phantom is the clearest entry point because it lays out the series mood so well.
