Web of Shadows returns to the Tir n'Aill universe after Maze of Shadows and Deal of Shadows, but it is built to work as its own starting point. This time the heroine is Ava Cole, whose life is already in pieces before enchanted lights in the woods lead her straight into Unseelie territory.

Her captor is Serrik, a fae exile with vengeance on his mind and power to spare.

That relationship sets the tone. Serrik is not a prince trying to win a crown or a duke striking a bargain for amusement. He feels harder-edged, more feral, more tied to exile and survival. Ava is trapped in a prison between realms and forced into a world shaped by hunger, blood, and magic that keeps tightening around her. The books push that claustrophobic setup into a larger conflict involving power, revenge, and Ava's own growing importance.

The series also leans into creepier imagery than some of Kingsley's other fae books. Webs, traps, and things lurking in the dark are part of the atmosphere here, and that gives the romance a slightly more horror-tinted feel. Even when the attraction builds, the setting keeps reminding you that this is not a place meant for human comfort.

Ava's role grows as the series continues. She is not just a captive. She becomes part of a struggle over what kind of force she might unleash, who gets to control it, and whether falling for Serrik is one more trap or the only chance she has.

If you like your fae romance darker, more enclosed, and a little more monstrous around the edges, this series is a good match. Start with The Unseelie Exile and read forward. It stands on its own, but it also deepens the wider Shadows world in a satisfying way.
