Author bio
Carol Ericson was born in North Dakota and spent part of her childhood in Sunnyvale, California, before Silicon Valley became Silicon Valley. Her family moved often because of her father's work as a cartographer, so books became the steady thing. She has said she practically lived at the library as a kid, and that sense of escape and possibility never really left her.
She was a reader first.
In her teens she fell hard for romance, especially gothic romance, after her sister introduced her to writers like Victoria Holt. She read widely, daydreamed constantly, and started building stories in her head long before she thought of herself as an author. She has joked that she once turned down a date so she could keep reading, which tells you a lot about where her loyalties were even then.
She studied English literature at UCLA, earning both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. During a summer program at Oxford, she found the push she needed and began writing her first book, a gothic romance. It took her years to finish, and by the time she did, the market had shifted. Instead of giving up, she shifted too, moving toward contemporary romantic suspense, where fast pacing, danger, and emotional tension could all live in the same story.
That long road shows in her books.
Before writing full time, Ericson taught English grammar and composition at Santa Monica College and worked as a technical writer and trainer for aerospace and defense-related employers in Southern California. She also earned a master's degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University. You can feel pieces of all that in her fiction. Her books are interested in systems, pressure, motive, and the ways fear can change ordinary choices.
Once she found her footing with Harlequin Intrigue, the fit made sense. She has written more than 65 books for that line, and her wider output stretches well past that. Titles like Navy SEAL Security, The Setup, Canyon Crime Scene, Misty Hollow Massacre, and The Creekside Murder show what she does best: romantic suspense with a strong hook, a quick pulse, and characters who have to solve something dangerous while their feelings get harder to ignore.
Across series like Brothers in Arms, Red, White and Built, Target: Timberline, and Discovery Bay, she returns to a few favorite ingredients. There are former soldiers, investigators, missing persons cases, cold cases, guarded heroines, and men who are good at protection but not always great at talking about what they feel. Some books lean military, some feel more like police procedurals, and some have a moody small-town edge. All of them move.
These days she lives near the beach in Southern California with her husband and their enormous English mastiff, Hamish. She still writes suspense, but she has also branched into independent romantic comedy, including her Five2Go boy band books. Off the page, she likes karaoke, all kinds of music, and has admitted to a soft spot for boy bands. That mix of danger, humor, and everyday detail feels very on brand for her.
