Series background & context

Brothers in Arms is one of the core Carol Ericson series, and it shows many of her favorite strengths in one place. The books center on military men and covert operatives whose jobs keep spilling over into their personal lives, usually at the worst possible moment.

These heroes are trained, disciplined, and useful in a crisis. They are much less prepared for old flames, unexpected family ties, or the fact that the women they are trying to protect usually have strong ideas of their own. That tension is the series' engine.

The early books set up the world with Navy SEALs, former lovers, undercover missions, and cases that force the couples onto the run together. From there, the series expands into related subseries, but the original appeal stays the same: mission-driven suspense with strong protective energy and fast-building romance.

If you are deciding where to start with Ericson, this is one of the best entry points. It is clean, representative, and very readable if what you want is military romantic suspense with steady crossover between books.
