The setting leans urban and contemporary, with LAPD detectives, FBI agents, forensic specialists, bloggers, and marshals all stepping into the story at different points. Each book has its own couple and central case, so they work as standalones. But the emotional thread is consistent: somebody is searching for a sister, a witness, or a woman the system has nearly forgotten.

That gives the series a slightly more urgent feel than a simple one-crime-per-book setup. The stakes are personal. These aren't abstract puzzles.
