Series background & context
The Accidentals takes the basic fun of Dakota Cassidy's earlier Accidental books and opens the world up even wider. The hook stays the same. Somebody's life goes sideways because of a supernatural accident, and now they have to figure out new powers, new enemies, and usually a very inconvenient love interest.
What changes in this branch of the series is scale. By the time these books begin, Marty, Nina, and Wanda are no longer just the women from the first stories. They are the connective tissue of a much bigger world, often stepping in through OOPS to help the latest accidental victim survive the chaos. That gives the newer books a nice mix of fresh leads and familiar faces.
The transformations are all over the map, and that is part of the charm. In this run alone, Cassidy plays with goddesses, fairy-tale kingdoms, bear shifters, familiars, mermaids, unicorns, trolls, angels, gargoyles, ghosts, witches, and more. Accidentally Aphrodite sends Quinn to Greece and straight into matchmaking trouble. Accidentally Ever After goes full fairy-tale quest. The Accidental Familiar folds in warlocks and magical bonds. Accidental AF throws a skeptical human into a paranormal pileup that is practically every species at once.
The tone is big, goofy, romantic, and proudly over the top. But the books work because Cassidy keeps the emotional throughline clear. However wild the premise gets, the characters are usually dealing with familiar fears, wanting to belong, wanting love, wanting a second chance, or simply wanting their life to make sense again.
These books also reward readers who like a connected cast. Returning characters matter here. Friendships, running jokes, old grudges, and past couples all help make the series feel like one long supernatural hangout with very high stakes. Some entries are shorter quick reads, some go bigger, but they all plug into the same found-family energy.
If you want Dakota Cassidy at her loosest and most imaginative, this is a great place to camp out. The Accidentals is for readers who like paranormal romance with a lot of moving parts, a lot of banter, and absolutely no interest in keeping the weirdness small.
