Paris, Texas Books in Order

Paris, Texas is one of Dakota Cassidy's best examples of small-town paranormal romance done with a grin. The setup is wonderfully ridiculous in the right way. Women coming out of magical trouble, often after time in witch jail or under some other supernatural penalty, end up in Paris, Texas to work off their sentences and sort themselves out.

That makes the town feel part halfway house, part magical community, and part pressure cooker. Nobody arrives in perfect shape. They are embarrassed, angry, confused, or trying not to make things worse. Cassidy gets a lot of mileage out of that. It gives the romances some friction and the town a lived-in feeling right from the start.

Winnie Foster opens the series in Witched At Birth, where magical parole drops her into a school for magically inclined kids and right back into the orbit of the ex who helped land her in trouble. From there the books widen out through Calla and Nash, Bernice and Ridge, and later Cozy and Finn in the holiday-tinged White Witchmas. Along the way you get ranches, familiars, seniors with too much personality, and plenty of Texas heat.

The tone is funny and messy, but there is an ongoing theme of learning how to live with your own magic instead of fearing it. That is why the town matters so much. Paris is not just a cute backdrop. It is where these women figure out who they are when the worst thing that ever happened to them is no longer the whole story.

If you like romantic paranormals with a small-town cast, quirky side characters, and heroines rebuilding from magical disaster, Paris, Texas is a very good bet. It is breezy, warm, and never tries to pretend being on parole in witch country should be boring.
