The Survival Trilogy takes Morgan Rice into post-apocalyptic territory. The setup is blunt and effective: America has been broken by war, violent gangs control what is left of the cities, and ordinary survival has become a full-time job. In that world, Brooke Moore is trying to keep herself and her younger sister alive.

Then her sister is taken.

That is the engine of the whole trilogy. Brooke is not chasing glory or prophecy. She is trying to get family back from a brutal system built on captivity, spectacle, and fear. The first book introduces Arena One, a death stadium where captured victims are forced to fight for entertainment, and that gives the series its harshest edge.

The tone is faster and more stripped down than Rice's epic fantasies. There is less court intrigue and more movement, escape, scavenging, pursuit, and close-quarters danger. Even so, the same Morgan Rice interests are here too: a young protagonist under impossible pressure, a broken world that demands quick growth, and strong emotional stakes that keep the action personal.

Because the trilogy is only three books long, it is one of the easier places to start if you want to see Rice outside dragons and magic kingdoms. The setting is bleak, but the story keeps its focus on resilience, sisterhood, and the stubborn refusal to give up when the world has gone bad.
