Vampire, Fallen Books in Order

Vampire, Fallen opens with Kate, a seventeen-year-old who feels unwanted in her own home. She is the less favored daughter, the one her mother undervalues and her sister overshadows. Rice spends time with that ordinary misery before anything supernatural happens, which helps the later transformation land harder.

Then everything changes on Kate's birthday.

A terrible accident should kill her. Instead, it turns her into something she was never supposed to become. That is the real hook of the series, or at least of its opening setup: not just a vampire story, but a story about a girl surviving a home life that had already pushed her to the margins, then being forced to rethink everything once death does not work the way it should.

There is romance in the frame too, especially through the mysterious Elijah and the sudden attention Kate starts receiving from the outside world. But the stronger thread is identity. Kate has to figure out what she is, what she wants, and whether this change is a curse, a rescue, or both.

The tone is very much young adult paranormal romance, but it leans darker than The Vampire Journals. It starts from loneliness and resentment, then adds supernatural danger on top.

If you like vampire fiction where the transformation is tied closely to family pain, survival, and a fresh chance at agency, this series has a strong opening premise.
