Shadowseer Books in Order

Shadowseer is one of Morgan Rice's more distinctive series because it mixes fantasy with mystery instead of leaning fully into quest fantasy or paranormal romance. It begins in Victorian London with Kaia, a seventeen-year-old orphan who wants out of a terrible orphanage and has no clear path to get there. What makes her unusual is not just her hardship. It is the strange way she senses shadows that other people do not seem to notice.

Then murders start piling up.

A detective named Pinsley notices a mark on Kaia's arm and realizes she may be useful in solving a case that does not behave like an ordinary case at all. Bodies are turning up under impossible circumstances, and the series quickly settles into its central rhythm: Kaia and Pinsley, mistrustful but necessary partners, moving through dark streets, clues, and supernatural danger.

The period setting really helps. Cobblestone streets, fog, orphanages, asylum threats, and old European cities give the books a strong atmosphere. And because later volumes move through Paris, Munich, Rome, and Athens, the series gets to widen geographically without losing its detective structure.

Kaia is the heart of it. Her search for the truth about her parents, her powers, and the murders around her gives the books both personal and procedural stakes.

If you like the idea of fantasy magic working inside a murder investigation, with Victorian mood and a young heroine scraping her way upward through a hostile world, Shadowseer is an easy recommendation.
