Frostforge Books in Order

Frostforge is another academy fantasy from Morgan Rice, but it has a colder, more isolated personality than some of her other school series. Thalia Greenspire is sent to the legendary Frostforge Academy to master arcane powers and tame wild creatures. That already sounds difficult. The books make it clear it is worse than difficult. It is treacherous.

Snow, betrayal, and suspicion shape the mood.

The academy setting matters here not just as a school, but as a pressure chamber. Friendships are fragile, romance is tangled up with rivalry, and trust can change from chapter to chapter. Rice uses the snowy setting well because it makes even ordinary movement feel exposed. Frostforge is not cozy. It is a place where students are watched, tested, and measured constantly.

One of the stronger ideas in the series is that magical skill and craft are linked. The second book, for example, pushes Thalia into magical metallurgy, which gives the school a more hands-on, forged-under-pressure feel than a generic spell academy.

Thalia is the sort of Rice heroine who becomes more compelling as the system around her reveals itself. She starts by trying to survive the academy. She keeps going because survival alone is not enough once the secrets get bigger.

If you want academy fantasy with a wintry atmosphere, beast taming, suspicion, and a heroine learning which bonds are real in a place built on competition, Frostforge has a clear lane and stays in it well.
