Series background & context

Sandcastle Bay is a cheerful, windswept village on the coast where family ties and lifelong friendships run through every street. In this series Holly Martin follows three women whose lives keep circling back to this little corner of the world, even when they think they have left it behind.

The story begins in The Holiday Cottage by the Sea, when Tori Graham arrives in Sandcastle Bay needing a break after a personal loss. She is planning only a temporary escape, renting Blossom Cottage near the shore and spending time with her best friend Melody. Of course the village has other ideas. Tori quickly becomes entangled with local life, from eccentric residents to community events, and finds herself drawn to Aidan Jackson, the quiet, good hearted man who looks after her holiday cottage and carries his own scars.

The Cottage on Sunshine Beach shifts the spotlight to Melody Rosewood. She is already settled in Sandcastle Bay, running a jewellery shop and living in a small cottage with a bright yellow door. Her world looks idyllic from the outside, but she longs for more than friendly smiles. Opposite her shop works Jamie Jackson, a sculptor with a cheeky grin, a loyal dog and a past he does not like to talk about. Their flirtation is full of near misses, comic disasters and moments where old hurts threaten to get in the way of something lasting.

In Coming Home to Maple Cottage we follow Isla, Tori’s cousin, who returns to Sandcastle Bay after her brother’s sudden death. She is now guardian to her young nephew Elliot and determined to give him the childhood he deserves in their cosy family cottage. Leo, Elliot’s godfather and her brother’s former wild best friend, steps up to help. As they navigate grief, school runs and conker collecting, friendship between Isla and Leo begins to look a lot like love.

Across the trilogy Sandcastle Bay feels like a place you could visit. There are village fairs, beach bonfires, quirky local traditions and that sense of everyone looking out for each other, even while they pry into each other’s business. The same shops, cottages and faces appear again and again, so each new book feels like a return visit.

The series leans into comfort and hope, but it also gives space to characters dealing with loss, fear of commitment and the messiness of starting over. Readers who enjoy romances full of sunshine, found family and a slightly chaotic but loving community will feel right at home in Sandcastle Bay.
