Series background & context

Magic & Mixology follows Lily Locke, a career-minded marketing employee whose practical life breaks open when she discovers that magic is real. Lily has spent years believing in deadlines, spreadsheets, and a possible promotion. Then a mysterious quiz leads her to a world she did not know existed.

She is a witch, and she has a biological family waiting for her on a hidden magical island in Lake Superior.

The discovery is not neat or easy. Lily must learn the island's customs, accept a role as its newest Mixologist, and understand powers she never knew she had. Her new community includes witches, vampires, magical protectors, and people with complicated histories. There is also a murder almost as soon as she arrives.

Hex on the Beach starts Lily's story with culture shock, a dangerous case, and the first sparks of a romance with the mysterious Ranger X. The next books, including Witchy Sour and Jinx and Tonic, deepen the relationships around Lily while raising the stakes through stolen spellbooks, black magic, missing people, and threats to the island itself.

The title is a good clue to the mood. The series mixes enchanted drinks and bright, playful details with genuine suspense. Lily is learning to be brave in a setting that is lovely but never completely safe. Her role means she is often asked to help when magic goes wrong, even before she feels ready.

The island has plenty of secrets.

As the series continues through Long Isle Iced Tea, Amuletto Kiss, Spelldriver, Magic Julep, and Mermaid Mimosa, Lily's responsibilities grow beyond her first introduction to magic. The larger story involves family, loyalty, ancient power, and the question of what kind of person Lily wants to be in this newly discovered life.

Start with Hex on the Beach and continue in order. The books are most rewarding when Lily's family ties, romance, and magical education are allowed to unfold one step at a time.
