Series background & context
The Lola Pink Mysteries center on Lola Pink, an upbeat young woman with a talent for psychic work that does not always go as planned. Her world changes when she takes a job posing as the personal assistant to Dane Clark, a socially awkward technology billionaire whose life runs on schedules, systems, and strict expectations.
Lola is not part of his schedule.
In Shades of Pink, Lola's assignment is supposed to be simple: get close to Dane Clark, locate missing blueprints, and leave. Instead, she is drawn into the problems surrounding his company and his safety. Dane finds Lola's bright clothes, many sunglasses, and messy approach to organization baffling. Lola finds him difficult, guarded, and much more appealing than she expected.
The series blends mystery, romantic comedy, and light paranormal elements. Lola's personality is a deliberate contrast to Dane's controlled, analytical way of life. Their different approaches create plenty of banter, but the books also give them real problems to solve, including threats connected to business, secrets, and the people around them.
Dane's immense wealth and private world raise the stakes. Lola has to decide how much she can trust him, while Dane has to make room for someone who does not fit into any of his careful plans. Their connection is part of the fun, but the suspense comes from the danger gathering around them.
Pink is not a subtle color. Neither is Lola.
The books continue with Shades of Stars and Shades of Sunshine, carrying the relationship forward while presenting new complications. It is best to start with Shades of Pink, since it explains Lola's job, Dane's unusual household, and the first mystery that ties them together.
This is a good fit for readers who like a little danger with their romance, an opposites-attract pairing, and a heroine who brings warmth and unpredictability to a very controlled man's life.
