Series background & context

The MAGIC, Inc. Mysteries begin with The Undercover Witch, a paranormal cozy mystery starring Ainsley Shaw. Ainsley is a Guardian Witch, which sounds impressive until she explains what it really means: she is essentially a bodyguard for people with magical abilities.

She is good at the job. Usually.

Ainsley's trouble begins when she crashes her broomstick into an undercover police cruiser at a crime scene. The officer inside is human, which makes explaining her sudden appearance, damaged broom, and magical identity rather difficult. Before long, the police see her as more than an inconvenience. They see her as a possible suspect.

To clear her name, Ainsley has to investigate the crime herself. That puts her in the path of Detective Hotterson, a human cop who is not thrilled with the magical complications she brings to his case. Their uneasy connection adds romance and friction to a story built around a heroine who means well but has a gift for turning a bad day into a spectacular mess.

The setting links to the wider magical world of the Magic & Mixology books, but Ainsley has her own role and her own problems. Her work brings her close to hidden magical communities, law enforcement, and people who would prefer their secrets to stay secret. The result is a story with spells, danger, comedy, and a central puzzle.

Brooms and police cars are a poor match.

Start with The Undercover Witch. It introduces Ainsley, the Guardian Witch role, and the balance between ordinary police work and supernatural trouble. The book works for readers who want a magical mystery with a lively heroine, a reluctant cop, and a case that forces both sides to reconsider what they think is possible.

Expect the mood to stay playful even when the stakes rise. Ainsley is not trying to become a grand hero. She just wants to do her job, protect people, and avoid being jailed for a crime she did not commit.
