Series background & context
Exiled is a paranormal romance series about a community of human-animal hybrids who were engineered as experiments and imprisoned for generations. Their survival depends on a rogue angel, Kellareal, who stops a planned genocide and moves them to another world.
Freedom does not make life easy. The hybrids, known as the Exiled, must build a safe society while protecting humans from the violent consequences of the same experiments that created them. They are also learning how to live as people with choices, families, and futures after being treated as property.
The first book, Carnal: The Beast Who Loved Me, brings Rosie Storm into their world. Rosie arrives looking for a place to hide and a little time to sort out her personal life. Instead, she meets Carnal, the oldest son of the Exiled leader, and becomes caught up in a conflict much larger than either of them expected.
The series is emotionally direct.
Later books follow members of the Exiled community as they face trauma, recovery, prejudice, murder, and the risk that mistrust between humans and hybrids could become open violence. Romance is important, but the strongest continuing thread is the community’s determination to care for its own without turning away from the larger world.
Exiled shares characters and history with the Knights of Black Swan books. It is best read after the earlier Black Swan novels, particularly before continuing into Journey Man, because the crossover has consequences for the larger story.
Start with Carnal. It explains the Exiled people, their past, and the protective world they are trying to create.
