Series background & context
The Empyrean Chronicles drop a nameless warrior into a brutal new world and ask what happens when someone gets more than one chance to confront the same enemy. The series is classic sword-and-sorcery filtered through isekai and harem sensibilities.
The protagonist wakes up in a tomb with little more than a massive sword and fragments of memory from other lives. In one past existence he roamed this land as a mighty champion, only to be struck down by an ageless wizard-king. In another he lived in a city of steel and glass that feels suspiciously like our own world.
In his new life he is stronger, faster, and more dangerous than ever. The wizard-king who once killed him is still out there consolidating power, and the gods of this world seem to have plans that involve both of them. With no clear path and few friends, the warrior does the one thing he knows how to do: he takes jobs, gathers coin, and fights anyone who gets in his way.
Over the course of the series he assembles a company of lovers, allies, and mercenaries. Together they battle monsters, raid ruins, and navigate city-states where the Thieves Guild and desert cults play games on a divine scale. The city of Avanasia, familiar from Master of Thieves, becomes a key stage for his rise from wandering sword to captain of a feared mercenary band.
As his influence grows, the stakes move from personal survival to leadership and, eventually, godhood. Questions about free will, destiny, and the price of power become harder to dodge when actual deities are watching and meddling. The warrior has to decide whether he is merely a tool in a plan he cannot see, or a wild variable who can break the pattern.
Empyrean Chronicles is packed with battles, political intrigue, and explicit relationships, all written in a straightforward, pulpy style. It connects strongly to other Empyrea-related stories, including Master of Thieves and some of Dalton's short fiction, but you can treat it as a self-contained saga about a man who refuses to stay dead or obedient.
