Author bio
Dakota Cassidy writes books that know how to have a good time. Her stories mix romance, supernatural chaos, and fast, chatty humor, and they rarely stay in one mood for long. One minute someone is dealing with a werewolf bite, a ghost in the kitchen, or a demon in the tattoo shop. The next minute they are falling in love, solving a murder, or trying not to make things even worse.
Place matters in her work. She has said that New York is her home state, and that pull shows up again and again in the early Accidental books. She also wrote much of that long-running paranormal world while living in Texas, which helps explain why her stories can feel both city-sharp and gloriously overheated at the same time. These days, she lives in Oregon with her husband and dogs.
Her first traditionally published book arrived in 2008, and The Accidental Werewolf pretty much announced the whole Dakota Cassidy project in one go. A hardworking cosmetics saleswoman gets bitten, turns into a werewolf, and has to trust the very man who caused the mess. It is funny, romantic, a little wild, and completely comfortable being all of those things at once.
And then she kept going.
The Accidental world grew into one of her biggest calling cards. What started with Marty, Nina, and Wanda turned into a much larger connected universe built around OOPS, a support system for people whose lives have been derailed by accidental brushes with the paranormal. Books like Accidentally Dead, The Accidental Genie, Accidentally Aphrodite, and The Accidental Familiar all take that basic idea and spin it in new directions. Someone gets changed. Everything gets complicated. Romance shows up. So does danger. And somehow there is still room for jokes.
She has never stayed in just one lane, though. Cassidy also writes contemporary romance, and Talk Dirty to Me remains one of the clearest examples of how well she handles emotional comedy without losing heart. In that series, as in You Dropped a Blonde on Me, she trades witches and vampires for women rebuilding their lives after betrayal. Later, she moved hard into paranormal cozy mysteries with books like Witch Slapped and Then There Were Nun, and into midlife paranormal mystery with Stage Fright.
She clearly likes throwing smart women into impossible situations.
That is one of the reasons readers tend to remember her supporting casts almost as vividly as her leads. A bat familiar named Belfry. An ex-spy ghost named Winterbottom. An ex-nun sharing space with a demon. Ex-trophy wives regrouping in a retirement community. Cassidy likes heroines who are tired, underestimated, starting over, or all three. She also likes found family, unlikely friendships, and communities that look ridiculous from the outside but make perfect sense once you settle in.
Her career has also stretched across different publishing modes. After building a readership in traditional publishing, she continued expanding her worlds as an indie author, especially in the later Accidental books. That helps explain why her backlist is so large and so varied. The common thread is not one setting or one kind of creature. It is tone. Readers usually come to Dakota Cassidy for speed, humor, chemistry, and a little supernatural nonsense.
The industry noticed, too. Talk Dirty to Me received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, and Kiss & Hell won an RT Reviewers' Choice Award. She was also invited by Bravo TV to serve as a Bravoholic for a week, which feels perfectly on brand for a writer whose books are full of sharp asides and pop-culture energy.
Even her author bio has the same wink as her fiction. She jokes about tiaras, hair products, and writing fun books. That feels about right. Her stories are lively, romantic, and a little messy on purpose. If you want paranormal romance and cozy mystery with bite, she has built a whole shelf for that.
