At the center of the Berkley Street books is Shane Ryan, a former Marine who comes back to 125 Berkley Street in Nashua, New Hampshire to learn what really happened to his missing parents. What waits for him is not one ghost, or even one haunting. The house is packed with violent spirits, hidden spaces, old grudges, and a history that keeps reaching into the present.

This is haunted house horror, but it is never just about creaking floors and cold spots. Shane fights back. He studies the dead, learns their habits, and figures out which spirits can be managed and which ones only want blood.

That gives the series a strong action streak. Shane is not a passive witness, and the books move fast because of it.

Even so, the emotional core stays personal. The Anderson House is tied to Shane's childhood, his parents, and the fear that shaped him long before he became a ghost hunter. As the series goes on, he is pulled toward other cursed places, including a lighthouse, a hospital, a prison, a mill, and a burial ground. Each new location expands the world, but the pull of Berkley Street never really goes away.

The supporting cast matters a lot here. Carl Hesselschwerdt, Eloise, and Frank Benedict give the books some of their strangest and best energy. Some ghosts are monsters. Some are tragic. A few become uneasy allies. That mix keeps the haunting from feeling repetitive, even after multiple books.

If you want Ron Ripley at his most direct and addictive, this is a strong place to begin. The series blends haunted-house terror, brutal set pieces, and an ongoing mystery about family, loyalty, and what happens when the dead refuse to stay buried.
