Series background & context
Witches of Mayfair takes Greiman's historical romance instincts and adds a secret magical society to the mix. On the surface, the women of Lavender House look like well-bred ladies passing the time in London society. In private, they are much more dangerous, and much more useful, than that cover suggests.
That double life is the heart of the series. The books move through drawing rooms, gossip, and courtship rituals, but underneath there are investigations, hidden powers, and enemies who do not fully understand what these women can do. Magic is part of the setup from the beginning, yet the stories still read very much like romance novels first. Attraction, secrecy, and trust do most of the work.
Each book shifts focus to a different couple. Under Your Spell follows Ella St. James as she looks into a friend's suspicious meetings and sudden death while the increasingly unavoidable Sir Thomas Drake circles nearby. Seduced By Your Spell centers on Madeline Fallon and Jasper Reeves during an investigation into a kidnapped girl. Charming the Devil brings in younger witch Faye and the Scottish warrior Rogan MacBain, mixing romance with a larger pattern of suspicious deaths.
The tone is a blend of paranormal historical romance and light mystery. There is danger, but the mood is more seductive than frightening. The pleasures here are the secret gifts, the house full of women with their own rules, and the way a public world of manners keeps colliding with private power.
If you like Regency-era atmosphere but want more magic and a little more bite, this series is Greiman's most playful take on the supernatural.
