Series background & context

Wicked shows Heather Renee working in a darker, contemporary lane. The paranormal elements drop away, but the tension does not. These books center on Olivia and Luca, two people thrown together by a bad decision, a worse night, and a mafia war where neither relationship nor survival can stay separate from the other.

The series kicks off with Olivia stumbling into danger she does not understand, then getting trapped in Luca Monroe's orbit when powerful men decide she has seen too much. That gives the romance a forced-proximity edge right away. Luca is dangerous, controlling, and not exactly easy to trust, but he is also the person standing between Olivia and the people trying to kill her.

Because this is a duet, the story moves fast and keeps the pressure high. There is less room for world wandering and more focus on secrecy, power, and how quickly fear can turn into dependence and attraction. It is darker than Heather Renee's fantasy work, but it still uses one of her favorite engines, two people trying to fight the pull between them while the outside world makes every choice harder.

This one is for the readers who want menace with their romance.

If mafia stories, cliffhangers, and emotionally charged dual POV are your thing, Wicked is the page to head for.
