Series background & context

The Hidden Realm begins with a smart move, it lets Dawsyn leave one life before the next one crashes into her. She walks away from pack expectations hoping to figure out who she is on her own. A week later, she learns dragon shifters are real and one of them, Cillian, is her mate.

That immediate clash between freedom and fate gives the series a lot of spark. Dawsyn does not want her future handed to her. Cillian is dealing with a realm already under attack. So even though the attraction is real, both of them are pulled by larger problems that make simple romance impossible.

The hidden realm itself adds a fresh layer to Heather Renee's connected world. It gives the trilogy dragon politics, outside threats, and a sense that Dawsyn is stepping into a conflict far older than she is. The romance matters, but so does the question of whether she can belong in a place she never even knew existed.

Dragons help, obviously.

If you like grumpy heroes, heroines who refuse to go quietly, and paranormal romance that opens into a bigger fantasy conflict, this trilogy is a fun mix of both.
