Amanda Hocking's Watersong is a four-book paranormal fantasy about sisters, the sea, and a transformation that looks tempting before it turns terrifying. The story begins with Gemma Fisher, a teenager enjoying a summer romance with her longtime neighbor Alex. Then three beautiful, unsettling girls named Penn, Lexi, and Thea take an interest in her.

Their invitation changes everything. The series works because the sisters face the crisis from different sides. Gemma wants the chance to return to her family and her former life, but the longer she remains with Penn, Lexi, and Thea, the harder that becomes. Harper wants a normal life too, but she keeps being pulled deeper into a threat she never asked to understand.

Tidal raises the urgency when Gemma finds a possible way to break the curse. The sirens are not willing to let her escape, and Penn's obsession with Daniel puts Harper directly in danger. In Elegy, the final book, Gemma holds the key to ending the curse, but the chance of a future with Alex and her family comes with high risks.

Family is the anchor of the series.

A companion short story, Forgotten Lyrics, takes place before the main quartet and gives background that connects to the wider fate of the town. It can be read as extra context, but new readers should begin with Wake. The main reading order is Wake, Lullaby, Tidal, and Elegy.
