Kanin Chronicles Books in Order

Amanda Hocking's Kanin Chronicles returns to the troll world introduced in the Trylle Trilogy, but it has a new heroine and a colder, more political setting. Bryn Aven lives in the snow-covered Kanin kingdom, where she has grown up feeling like an outsider. Her mixed heritage makes her stand out, and Kanin society does not easily make room for people who do not fit its idea of respectability.

Bryn's answer is to work harder. She is a tracker determined to earn a place in the elite guard that protects the royal family. Her commander, Ridley Dresden, is demanding and important to her ambitions, which makes their growing attraction a problem as well as a comfort.

In Ice Kissed, Bryn's work takes her toward the Skojare, another troll community and a source of answers about her heritage. The immediate danger grows as powerful enemies threaten the royal families, but the deeper tension comes from what Bryn discovers about the Kanin's hidden history. Her personal search for acceptance becomes tied to the fate of the whole kingdom.

Crystal Kingdom pushes Bryn into an even more difficult position. Cast out and far from home, she must decide whether she can work with people she does not trust to protect the world she still cares about. The conflict reaches beyond one kingdom, drawing in the Trylle and showing how secrets at the top can endanger everyone below.

The main trilogy should be read in order: Frostfire, Ice Kissed, then Crystal Kingdom. The prequel novelette The King's Games is set earlier in Bryn's life and can be read after the trilogy or before it for extra background. Hidden Kingdom collects the three main novels in one volume.

Readers can start here without reading the Trylle Trilogy, though returning readers will enjoy the connections. Expect a capable heroine, forbidden attraction, icy settings, divided loyalties, and a mystery about the kingdom Bryn has spent her life trying to protect.
