Series background & context

Amanda Hocking's My Blood Approves is a paranormal romance saga centered on Alice Bonham, a seventeen-year-old whose life changes when she meets two vampire brothers. Jack is charming, protective, and unexpectedly easy to talk to. Peter is distant, intense, and much harder for Alice to understand. The attraction to both of them puts Alice in the middle of a complicated emotional and supernatural situation from the beginning.

The first book, My Blood Approves, starts with the uneasy discovery that Jack and Peter are vampires. Alice is not simply looking for a dangerous romance. She is pulled into their hidden world while trying to hold on to her brother Milo, her friendships, and the ordinary parts of her life. The series builds its tension from the personal consequences of that pull.

Nothing stays ordinary for long.

As the books continue, Alice must deal with choices that change her relationship to the vampire world and to herself. Fate puts pressure on the balance she has tried to make between her old life and her new one. Flutter deals with Alice's difficult adjustment after a major transformation, while outside threats and uncontrolled bloodlust make the group more vulnerable.

The later books widen the setting. In Wisdom, Alice's trip to Australia is interrupted by murder and a dangerous loose end from the vampire world. Swear jumps forward to an older Alice, now living abroad and working as a vampire hunter. A resurfacing cult and a message tied to Peter's past draw her back into danger, showing how long the consequences of the earlier books have lasted.

At its heart, this is a story about loyalty, desire, and the discomfort of becoming someone new. Alice cares deeply about the people around her, but love does not make the choices easy. Jack and Peter are not interchangeable romantic options, and the triangle is tied to real differences in trust, power, history, and responsibility.

The vampire drama gets personal.

The series also includes Letters to Elise, a prequel novella told through Peter's letters, and Little Tree, a holiday story set years after the main saga. These add context, but they are best read after the main books. Readers looking for the full emotional arc should begin with My Blood Approves and continue in publication order through Swear.

Expect a direct, fast-moving paranormal romance with family trouble, dangerous vampires, shifting loyalties, and a heroine whose decisions shape the whole story.
