Scott gets a lot of chemistry out of pairing those men with women who are clever, unconventional, or just as determined to live outside the obvious script.

The result is a very readable mix of status and disruption.

The Detective Duke sets the tone perfectly, with Hudson Stone moving from Scotland Yard to a dukedom he never wanted, and a marriage-of-convenience plot that quickly grows more complicated. The Playboy Peer leans into scandal and accidental compromise. The Millionaire Marquess plays with class, disguise, and a bargain that turns personal. The Goodbye Governess closes the run with a former boxer, unruly children, and a heroine posing as something she is not.

A family thread helps hold the books together, especially through the Collingwood women and the social world around them, but the larger appeal is tonal. These are Victorian romances that enjoy a hero who feels slightly misplaced and a heroine who is in no mood to make his life easier.

If you like your aristocratic romance with a bit more grit, a touch of reinvention, and heroes who must grow into both love and responsibility, Unexpected Lords delivers that nicely.
