Series background & context
The Wicked Winters is one of Scarlett Scott's signature Regency series, and it earns that status by feeling big, lively, and full of family personality. The Winters are notorious, wealthy, difficult to ignore, and forever turning up in one another's lives. That means every romance comes with sibling interference, shared history, and the pleasant sense that there is always another Winter waiting in the wings.
The series begins with Devereaux Winter in Wicked in Winter, and from there it spreads outward across brothers, sisters, half siblings, allies, and connected families. The books are shorter than some of Scott's full-length novels, but they never feel thin. Instead, they move briskly, often with snowstorms, country house parties, wagers, fake betrothals, and family obligations pushing the plot along.
The winter atmosphere matters.
Christmas, cold weather, and seasonal gatherings give many of these books their shape. Wedded in Winter, Wanton in Winter, Wishes in Winter, Winter's Whispers, and A Merry Wicked Winter all make excellent use of that mix of festive setting and rising intimacy. Even when the season is not the whole point, the series keeps a strong feeling of warmth in contrast to chilly reputations, guarded hearts, and stubborn characters.
The family itself is varied enough to keep things fresh. You get merchants, rogues, crime lords, fighters, assassins, wallflowers, hoydens, and women who are done letting anybody else decide their futures. Some romances are sweeter. Some are rougher around the edges. Some bring in danger from outside the family, and some are mostly about surviving one another.
That is why the series works so well in order.
Each book gives a couple their own happily ever after, but the larger pleasure is watching the Winter network expand. Faces recur. Later books pay off earlier introductions. The Suttons enter the picture. Holiday scenes gain extra weight because you know who is standing around the fire.
If you want a Regency family saga with heat, humor, seasonal charm, and a lot of sibling energy, The Wicked Winters is one of Scott's easiest worlds to fall into.
