Twilight Imperium Books in Order

Tim Pratt's Twilight Imperium novels take place in a galaxy shaped by the ruins of the Lazax Empire. The old rulers are gone, but the vacuum they left behind is still full of rival factions, contested worlds, commercial interests, military fleets, and people who see opportunity wherever authority breaks down.

The setting is crowded on purpose.

The Fractured Void starts the sequence with a story that draws on the game's many factions and the unstable politics around Mecatol Rex. Rather than following a single empire or military campaign, Pratt builds his books around characters with different loyalties, including people whose jobs involve theft, survival, diplomacy, or getting out from beneath somebody else's control.

The later novels widen the view. The Necropolis Empire heads into the shadow of an old and dangerous legacy, while The Veiled Masters returns to the continuing struggle for power in a galaxy where ancient secrets remain useful weapons. Each book has its own immediate crisis, but together they show how hard it is to build stability when every faction has its own history and grievance.

That is a large part of the fun. The books use the space-opera scale of Twilight Imperium for heists, jailbreaks, political deals, shipboard tension, battles, and scams. Characters may start with personal goals, but the galaxy has a way of making private trouble public. A stolen object, an old claim, or a questionable alliance can quickly become everybody's problem.

Readers do not need to know the board game inside out. Pratt supplies enough context to make the factions and stakes clear, while longtime fans can enjoy the familiar names, worlds, and bits of lore. The tone is adventurous and busy, with a strong interest in how different people make choices inside systems that are bigger than they are.
