The Dystopia Triptych (Tim Pratt) Books in Order

Tim Pratt's contribution to The Dystopia Triptych is a linked sequence called “Wrack.” It unfolds across the three anthology volumes, using their before, during, and after structure to tell one larger story in separate pieces.

The order matters.

The first installment, “Glasslands,” appears in Ignorance Is Strength. It introduces the pressures and choices that allow a damaged future to take shape. “Cacophany,” in Burn the Ashes, moves into life inside that dystopian reality, where the options are narrower and the cost of resistance is clearer. The sequence concludes with “Spheres and Harmonies” in Or Else the Light, turning toward aftermath and the difficult possibility of change.

This is a compact story arc, but it is built for accumulation. Each part gains force from the one before it, and the changing anthology frame does real work. The first volume asks readers to notice warning signs. The second asks what people do when those signs have become the whole world. The third asks what can survive once the old order has broken.

Pratt is well suited to the form.

Across his novels and short fiction, he often writes people caught between large systems and immediate personal needs. The “Wrack” sequence lets him use that interest in a tight space. The stories can hold strange settings and big ideas, but the focus stays on people making choices under pressure and trying to understand what remains possible.

Because this is an anthology project, each volume also contains many other writers' responses to the same broad questions. That gives Pratt's thread extra texture. You can follow “Wrack” by itself, but reading the full books shows how its concerns echo, clash, and overlap with the other futures around it.
