The Axiom books are Tim Pratt's big, lively space-opera series. They begin with The Wrong Stars, when the crew of the White Raven, a ship that makes its living through freight work and salvage, finds something that should not be possible: a lost human explorer far beyond where she was meant to be.

That rescue opens a much bigger problem.

The explorer knows things about humanity's alien allies that the White Raven's crew does not. She also brings knowledge of the Axiom, an ancient and powerful force whose technology can remake minds, bodies, and whole civilizations. The books quickly expand from a tense discovery story into a fight over who gets to use that power, and whether anyone can control it safely.

The White Raven is the series' anchor. Its crew includes humans, posthumans, and aliens, and they are held together less by military discipline than by trust built under pressure. Captain Callie, her partner Elena, and their companions spend a lot of time making difficult choices with incomplete information. They can be funny, stubborn, caring, and badly outmatched all at once.

The danger keeps getting larger.

The Dreaming Stars sends the crew deeper into the consequences of what they found, while The Forbidden Stars brings them up against an ancient threat that could endanger sentient life across the galaxy. The plot has wormholes, virtual spaces, alien politics, altered minds, and dangerous artifacts, but it never loses sight of the people trying to keep one another alive.

The tone is brisk and warm rather than grim. Pratt gives the series plenty of action and sharp banter, but the emotional engine is the crew's loyalty. These are characters who may argue constantly, yet still climb into impossible situations because leaving someone behind is not an option.

Start with The Wrong Stars and read in order.

The main trilogy forms one continuous story. The Alien Stars: And Other Novellas is a companion collection that returns to the same setting and can be read after the novels. It offers more time with the wider universe without replacing the core three-book arc.
