TimeDogz is Tim C Taylor at his loosest and funniest, but the series still has real stakes under the jokes. The setup begins with a smart reversal of the usual time-travel story. In the 34th century, time travel is big business, and the official line is that the past cannot really be changed. Clients can visit it, mess around in it, and come home believing history is safely fixed in place. That sounds wonderfully reassuring right up until the books start proving how shaky the reassurance really is.

The lead is Stiletto Caldwell, an anti-hero who narrates like a man half convinced he is the coolest person in the room and half aware that history may be about to hit him with a chair. He is dragged back from death and recruited into the Time Dogz, then shoved into jobs that move from 1930s Germany to 1848 Belgium, on to 2362, and across Cold War alternate-history chaos. He is not a neat hero. That is a big part of the charm.

The series likes trouble.

A lot of that trouble comes from the collision between corporate time-travel logic and actual human mess. Missions sound simple until somebody is framed for murder, a timeline goes off book, or the Cleaners have to mop up damage caused by other people with access to history. Stiletto also has a gift for making things worse through desire, stubbornness, or badly timed affection, which gives the books a rom-com-gone-feral energy on top of the science fiction machinery.

The tone is different from The Human Legion or Chimera Company. There is more dark humor, more romance, more shameless play with historical figures, and more willingness to let the whole thing swerve from espionage to heartbreak to absurdity in a single stretch. But the ongoing problem is serious enough. If the past can change after all, then the business model behind the Time Dogz is a lie, and a lot more than one company's reputation is at risk.
