Series background & context
The Phoenix Club is one of Darcy Burke's most connected Regency worlds. It begins with the idea of a private club in London, but this is not a stiff, closed-off gentleman's haunt built only for the usual crowd. The club becomes a meeting place for people who are respectable, disreputable, lonely, wounded, curious, or simply in need of a fresh chance.
That matters.
The books follow a range of heroines and heroes who do not fit neatly into the boxes Society has prepared for them. Some are titled and powerful. Some are vulnerable, underestimated, or carrying real damage from the past. A few are trying to escape scandal, while others are trying to survive it. Across the series, Burke uses the club as a social hub where unlikely people cross paths and where reputation does not always tell the whole story.
The tone is romantic and sexy, but it is also warmer and more generous than the title might suggest. These are books about redemption and second chances as much as they are about chemistry. One couple may start with a practical problem, another with a disastrous attraction, and another with years of distance already between them. Again and again, the question is whether two people can see each other clearly enough to risk a real future.
London gives the series its sparkle, but the club gives it its heart. It is the place where secrets surface, where friendships and loyalties matter, and where even characters with rough edges can find room to begin again. If you like connected historical romances with a strong sense of community, this series offers plenty of variety without losing its center.
Start with Invitation if you want to see how the club comes together, then move into Improper and Impassioned to get a feel for the world. From there, the series keeps widening, while still returning to the same promise: scandal is never the end of the story.
