When He Dares

by Suzanne Wright

2024

In this Olympus Pride story, submissive healer Quinley Bevan enters an arranged mating with dominant enforcer Isaiah Hale, expecting only practical companionship. Their agreement is tested by stubborn true-mate bonds, lurking danger, and the unsettling realization that their fake-it-till-it-works partnership already feels like home.

Series background & context

The Olympus Pride books zoom in on a pride of mostly Pallas cat shifters introduced in the Mercury and Phoenix stories. Set in a more urban, business-minded environment, the series launches with When He's Dark, pairing emotionally fragile omega Bree Dwyer with her gruff wolverine boss, Aleksandr Devereaux.

Subsequent novels follow other pride members, like Havana and Alpha Tate in When He's An Alpha, lifelong best friends Aspen and Camden in When He's Sinful, fiercely protected Blair and ruthless Luke in When He's Ruthless, and chaotic snake shifter Bailey with logical enforcer Deke in When He's Torn.

When He Dares rounds things out with healer Quinley and enforcer Isaiah entering an arranged mating through a shifter matchmaking site, only to discover the setup feels far too real. Throughout the series, issues like rejected true mates, touch-hunger, and complicated family histories keep emotions running high.

Compared with the pack books, Olympus Pride reads a little more like small-community romance. Much of the drama plays out inside the pride's businesses and social spaces, and the cast of cousins, siblings, and meddling elders make it feel like a nosy extended family who also happen to be lethal predators.

Still, there is no shortage of outside danger, from stalkers and kidnappers to rival prides and old enemies. The series is also where you see the long-term effects of earlier shifter events, so it rewards readers who have already spent time with the Phoenix and Mercury packs.
