Around him gather Mia, a gifted mechanic, Jennie, a fierce young fighter, and a broader cast of friends, rivals, and uneasy allies. Over four books, their relationships are every bit as important as the external threats.

The series balances action with character unusually well. There are chases, kidnappings, monster-haunted journeys, and political showdowns, but the books also care about identity, family, sexuality, belonging, and the cost of survival. The danger is real, yet the emotional center stays generous.

That is what makes The Change stick. It is harsh without being joyless. Even in a broken world, the books keep asking what community might still look like, and what people can build together if fear does not win.
