Sagacious Books in Order

The Sagacious books share a world with The Phoenix Feather, but they open a different doorway into it. If Phoenix Feather is about one family's hidden past and the imperial pressures closing around them, Sagacious is about what happens when quieter, sidelined, or underestimated people get pulled into the center of history.

Music matters here. So does scholarship. So does the ability to survive a rigid social order without accepting its verdict on who counts. In Tribute, Bu and YinYin are swept from a music academy into imperial power struggles. In the Sage Empress books, Lan Renti tells the story of how she rose to become the first woman ruler of her empire.

Those books are full of wandering, disguise, friendship, and the clash between tradition and necessary change. A talking sword helps, but the real force in the story is Ren's determination to see the world as it is rather than as official history prefers to present it.
