Series background & context
The Sucking Dead series takes place in Gnarly Fell, a small English village where the supernatural is part of daily life. Vampires, fae, zombies, dragons, angels, ghosts, and Death himself all have homes, relationships, jobs, and long memories. The setup is knowingly silly at times, but the books still give their characters real worries about belonging, family, loss, and love.
It begins with Suck My Life. Mya is working in a bookshop when a vampire attack changes everything. Rather than dying, she becomes a vampire and is drawn into the strange responsibilities surrounding the Home of Wayward Souls. Her connection with Death gives the series one of its most unusual romantic threads, while the village becomes the place where everyone else's stories keep crossing.
Gnarly Fell is never quiet for long.
Each later book gives greater attention to another couple or familiar resident. My Vampire Boyfriend Sucks follows cupcake-cafe owner Callie and vampire Lawrie, whose fake relationship becomes necessary when Callie is threatened. Sucking Hell brings Christmas trouble, a possible Santa figure, a fae woman, and an escaped spirit into the mix. Other installments introduce romantic friction, supernatural family problems, old grudges, and looming dangers that affect the whole village.
The tone is paranormal romantic comedy with a warm, close-knit-community feel. Characters tease one another, make bad plans, and often have to solve problems with help from people they would rather not ask. Romantic pairings matter, but the wider cast is just as important. Returning readers see friendships deepen and side characters take their turn at the center of the story.
The world has rules, even if they are odd ones. Death has a role to play, the afterlife has administration, vampires have their own complications, and magical beings carry baggage from long before the first page. That gives the books continuing plot threads beneath the separate love stories.
Start with Suck My Life for the clearest introduction to Mya, Death, and Gnarly Fell. Many individual installments focus on a different couple, but reading in order makes the relationships, in-jokes, and village history land better. Expect romance, danger, bawdy humor, supernatural chaos, and a town where even a quiet holiday can turn into a crisis.
