Steve Feasey Books in Order

Steve Feasey was born in Watford in 1968 and grew up in Hertfordshire. He has said that books were always around the house, and that his father's love of reading helped shape his own. Adventure stories got to him early, and reading quickly became more than a pastime. It was a way to travel, hide, and imagine bigger worlds.

He also made serious use of the local library. By his own account, he came from a modest background, and books offered an escape that did not cost much. That early feeling, of everyday life opening into something stranger and larger, turns up again and again in his fiction.

Writing came later than reading.

Feasey did not start out as a teenage prodigy. After working in the photographic industry, he only turned to fiction in his thirties. The spark seems to have been a television programme about stories for boys, which made him think about the books he had loved as a teenager and the kind he wanted to write himself. He has also pointed to writers like Stephen King, Elmore Leonard, and Charles Dickens as important influences.

Out of that came Changeling, his first novel. The book introduced Trey Laporte, a London teen who discovers he is the last hereditary werewolf, and it grew into a five-book series with Dark Moon, Blood Wolf, Demon Games, and Zombie Dawn. Readers tend to come to these books for the monsters and the pace, then stay for the found-family dynamic, the hidden-world setup, and the way Trey keeps having to choose between fear and courage.

Changeling was shortlisted for the Waterstones Prize, which is a pretty good way to announce yourself.

Feasey did not stop with werewolves. In Mutant City and Mutant Rising, he shifted into dystopian science fiction, following superpowered kids through a broken world split between the privileged and the excluded. Later, with Dark Blade and Dark Art, he moved into epic fantasy, with old gods, monsters, murder, and an enchanted sword at the center. Across all three series, he keeps returning to young characters under pressure, hidden power, loyalty, and the problem of figuring out who you are when the world suddenly gets much bigger.

That helps explain why his books often work well for readers who like fast plots but still want emotional stakes. Feasey has spoken about wanting to write the kind of stories that might pull children, especially boys, into reading. You can see that in the way his novels move. The chapters are lean, the danger arrives early, and even the wildest settings stay rooted in what the characters want and fear.

He still lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and children.

That feels fitting. Feasey is a writer whose work grew out of being a hungry reader first, the kind of kid who found adventure in borrowed books and later decided to build some of his own.
