Series background & context

Stay a Spell is Juliette Cross at her most playful, cozy, and charming, while still keeping the heat level high. The series follows the Savoie sisters, a powerful witch family living in New Orleans, and gives each sister her own romance with a different kind of supernatural hero. Werewolves, vampires, grims, and witches all move through the same world, so the books feel connected even though each one centers on a different couple.

The New Orleans setting matters a lot here. This is not just a backdrop with a few paranormal decorations thrown on top. Cross uses the city's late-night energy, old architecture, hidden corners, bars, gardens, and family homes to build a world where magic feels close at hand. The Savoie house is the emotional center of the series, and the sisters' bond is a big part of why the books work. They meddle, tease, protect, and occasionally hex one another, but the warmth between them never feels fake.

The series opens with Wolf Gone Wild, where Evie Savoie helps a werewolf, Mateo Cruz, whose wolf has gotten far too loud inside his head. From there, Don't Hex and Drive shifts to shy, plant-loving Isadora and the very confident vampire Devraj, who get pulled into a case involving missing girls. Witches Get Stitches brings in Violet, a seer and tattoo artist, and Nico, a broody werewolf who already knows exactly what he wants.

Later books keep widening the emotional range without losing the fun. Always Practice Safe Hex pairs sunny, persuasive Livvy with Gareth, a stoic grim reaper who would rather not admit how gone he is. Resting Witch Face leans into second-chance romance through Jules and the vampire ruler Ruben. Grim and Bear It closes the main run with Clara and Henry, a softer, sweeter pairing that still carries real family trouble and danger. The holiday collection Walking in a Witchy Wonderland adds festive snapshots from the same magical community.

Warm, sexy, and a little chaotic.

What really ties the series together is tone. These books are romantic and funny, but they are not weightless. Cross gives her characters real fears, family loyalties, and moments of danger, then balances that with banter and an inviting found-family feel. If you like paranormal romance that feels modern, character-driven, and full of sister energy, Stay a Spell is an easy world to settle into. It works best in order, because the couples overlap and the family dynamic keeps building from book to book.
