Series background & context

The Silent series is a dark romantic-suspense duet about Shannon Taylor and Nicholas Lockhart, two people whose attraction is immediate but whose pasts are tied together in ways neither of them fully understands. The story begins after Shannon’s life is turned upside down by a painful betrayal, then follows the secrets and old trauma that surface when she meets Nick.

In Silent No More, Shannon thinks she has a settled life. She has a career, a long-term fiancé, and a best friend she trusts like family. That image falls apart when she discovers the people closest to her have betrayed her. Trying to escape the shock of it, she ends up at a hotel bar, where she meets Nicholas Lockhart.

Nick is not a simple rebound.

Nicholas is a wealthy, intense businessman with a guarded reputation and a quick temper. Shannon is attracted to him, but she is also carrying a past she has spent ten years refusing to talk about. Their relationship develops quickly, even as Shannon realizes Nick has connections to the very history she most wants to leave behind. The more they become involved, the more difficult it is for either of them to keep secrets in place.

The first book is built around Shannon’s attempt to reclaim control of her life after betrayal and trauma. Her silence once felt like protection, but it begins to look more like a wall that keeps her isolated. Nick has wounds of his own, including a troubled relationship with his father, and his need to protect Shannon often collides with his need to control the situation.

Silent Guilt continues Shannon and Nick’s story rather than moving to a new couple. By this point, the secrets between them are no longer abstract. Nick learns more about what happened to Shannon years earlier and has to face his own connection to it. Guilt, anger, and fear put pressure on a relationship that was already intense from the start.

The tone is dark, emotional, and dramatic. Expect betrayal, family secrets, possessive romance, painful memories, and a suspense plot that depends on information being revealed piece by piece. Shannon and Nick are flawed people, and the series asks whether they can build trust after discovering how much has been hidden from them.

Read Silent No More first and go directly into Silent Guilt. The first book ends on a cliffhanger, while the second is the conclusion to Shannon and Nick’s story.
