Author bio

Sarah Bennett is a British author of warm, contemporary romances set in seaside villages, country estates and small towns. Her books invite readers into tight-knit communities where love, friendship and second chances unfold over cups of coffee and walks along the shore.

She grew up in a family of dedicated readers, the sort of house where there was always a book on the table and another in a bag. That early love of stories never really went away, and she read widely across genres long before she ever tried writing her own.

Because she was born into a military family, moving and starting over became a normal part of life. New schools, new streets and new faces taught her how quickly strangers can become friends, and how important it is to build your own version of home wherever you land. Those experiences sit quietly behind many of her fictional villages and found families.

She married an officer too, so home is still wherever his uniform happens to be hanging up.

Before her first novel was published, she spent years devouring romances, crime novels and fantasy, learning what kept her turning the pages. Eventually the urge to try her own stories won. She began to write contemporary romances that mixed small communities, family drama and an optimistic view of love, and in 2017 her debut, Sunrise at Butterfly Cove, reached readers for the first time.

That book launched the Butterfly Cove trilogy, following Mia Sutherland as she renovates a rundown guesthouse on the coast and finds both healing and unexpected love. Bennett moved on to the Lavender Bay series, where three friends carve out new lives in a colourful seaside town filled with quirky shops, family secrets and slow-burn romances.

She has continued to build out her fictional world with the Bluebell Castle books, which centre on siblings trying to save a crumbling castle estate, and the Mermaids Point series, set in a coastal community famous for rumored mermaid sightings and a very real sense of community. More recently, the Juniper Meadows novels take readers into the Cotswolds, to an estate run by the sprawling Travers family, while Halfmoon Quay explores life and love on a Cornish harbour where everyone knows everyone else’s history.

Wherever she sets a story, you can usually expect at least one old secret, one stubborn heart and a lot of support from friends and family.

Readers often talk about her books as comfort reads, the kind you reach for when you want a few hours of escape. The romances deliver chemistry and tenderness, but there is as much focus on rebuilding lives after loss, repairing family rifts and finding the courage to start again. Seasonal settings, from glittering Christmas markets to sun-soaked summer fetes, give many of the books an extra layer of warmth.

When she is not at her desk or lost in a book, she happily leans into two quieter hobbies: afternoon naps and days at sea. She loves sailing on large ships provided they come with good food and a casino to people-watch in. Between travels and moves she keeps in close touch with readers, sharing works in progress and glimpses of life off the page, and she keeps returning to the same themes that have shaped her own story, that family can be chosen, community matters and love is worth the risk.
