Series background & context
The Lavender Bay series takes place in a colourful seaside town that looks postcard perfect, but where the residents are quietly wrestling with big decisions. At its heart are three lifelong friends, Beth, Eliza and Libby, each getting her own chance at a new start.
In Spring at Lavender Bay, Beth Reynolds returns from London after the death of Eleanor, the older woman who helped raise her and ran a bric-a-brac treasure trove called Eleanor’s Emporium. To her shock, Beth inherits the cluttered shop and has to decide whether to restore it and stay, or sell up and walk away again. Meanwhile, her friendship with local chef Sam Barnes begins to slide into something more complicated.
Summer at Lavender Bay follows Eliza Barnes, who thought her marriage would last forever until her husband relocates abroad without her. Back in Lavender Bay, she finally allows herself to chase a long-held dream of making luxury soaps and bath products with local ingredients. Quiet, grounded farmer Jack Gilbert becomes both a business ally and a surprising romantic temptation, just as her old life threatens to pull her away again.
The final book, Snowflakes at Lavender Bay, stays in town for Christmas with Libby Stone. Libby has never left Lavender Bay and is fiercely loyal to her dad’s slightly shabby fish and chip shop, even as she secretly sketches plans to turn it into a dainty tearoom. When mysterious stranger Owen Coburn walks into the pub, she feels an instant pull, but his hidden past may collide with every future she has imagined.
Together, the three stories chart how one small town can hold very different versions of escape and belonging for the people who call it home.
Lavender Bay itself provides the continuity, from windswept promenades and summer festivals to snow-dusted streets and cosy evenings above the shops. The books balance light, hopeful romance with themes of grief, loyalty and the quiet bravery it takes to admit that your life needs to change.
