Rayne Books in Order

The Rayne books are a two-part gothic thriller series about a teenager desperate to leave her crowded London life behind. In Possessed, Rayne feels boxed in by her demanding mother, her little brother, her controlling boyfriend, and the noise of the estate where she lives. Passing her exams gives her a reason to make a break.

She takes a live-in job at Morton’s Keep, an old country house near the small town of Marcle Lees. At first, the countryside gives Rayne exactly what she wanted: quiet, space, fresh air, and the chance to be someone outside her family’s expectations. But the house has a violent history, and the deeper she gets into local life, the harder it is to tell whom she can trust.

Morton’s Keep does not want to stay in the past.

The first book mixes a coming-of-age story with creeping supernatural unease. Rayne is not always easy or perfectly behaved. She can lie, lash out, and make decisions out of panic. That makes sense for someone who has spent so long feeling controlled. Her wish for independence is real, but freedom turns out to come with danger as well as relief.

The setting does much of the work. The old house, its grounds, local legends, strange rituals, and the tight-knit town create a tense, watchful atmosphere. Rayne also becomes involved with a circle of local teenagers, where attraction, jealousy, and hidden motives make it even harder to know who is on her side.

Consumed, also published as Fire and Rayne, picks up after the events of the first book. Rayne is still dealing with what she learned at Morton’s Keep when new crimes and uncanny signs suggest that the old evil is not finished. The danger spreads beyond one house, pulling Rayne and her friends into the town’s past and its traditions.

Start with Possessed and continue directly to Consumed. The series is for readers who like haunted houses, countryside folklore, suspense, and a heroine who must claim her own life while confronting forces that would rather use her for their purposes.
